President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. will be skipping the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September.
This was confirmed by Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel "Babe" Romualdez on Wednesday.
Just months after he assumed the presidency, Marcos marked his first engagement with the UN and his third official trip abroad by attending the 77th session of UNGA in New York.
In his first speech, Marcos covered the topics of climate change, the rule of law, and food security. He likewise called on UN members to resolve disputes "through reason and right," amid tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
The UN General Assembly 2023 will be taking place from September 9-15 in New York.
The event is an opportunity for world leaders to address shared problems and develop a collective solution.
