President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday said that the government is ready to evacuate the residents living within the permanent danger zone (PDZ) of Mayon Volcano and Taal Volcano.

In a media interview, Marcos said that the government is preparing and is keeping close monitoring on the unrest of the two volcanoes.

"What we are doing is preparing and moving people away from the area so that, should the time come, I hope it doesn’t happen – Kaya’t nakaabang tayo nang husto at naka-ready na naman tayo,” he said.

The President said that the communities affected will be evacuated and will be given assistance until the situation is controlled.

“The DOH (Department of Health) is looking after those people and we have analyzed the problem and we know where the wind is blowing. Kaya’t alam na natin kung saan dadaan ‘yung mga toxic na gases kaya’t paiiwasin na natin ‘yung mga tao na nakatira doon sa area na ‘yun,” Marcos added.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs), the Mayon Volcano has shown a crater glow and has emitted smoke up to 800 meters tall, and is showing signs of edifice inflation as of 5 AM.

The PhiVolcs warned the residents within PDZ about the potential eruption that might happen within weeks or days following the volcano's activity.

Meanwhile, the Taal volcano released 3000 meters of toxic gas and is still at Alert Level 1.
