Two-time PBA champion and Olympian Rosalio 'Yoyong' Martires passed away on Tuesday, June 18, at the age of 77-years old.
Martires, who played in the 1972 Olympics in Germany, won his first PBA championship with Royal Tru-Orange in the 1979 Open Conference, and his second with the San Miguel Beermen in the 1982 Invitational Conference.
Moby Leah Martires, the daughter of the basketball icon, confirmed the passing of her father in a Facebook post.
"He was surrounded by his family and loved ones during this difficult time. He lived a very adventurous and colorful life," she said in the Facebook post.
"You served God, our country, and your fellow men. Rest in Peace, papa. We love you," she added.
PBA legend Ramon Fernandez also went to social media to mourn the passing of his former teammate.
"I will forever be proud of your accomplishments. Your legacy as a sportsman and as a public servant will remain an inspiration to many," Fernandez said in a Facebook post.
Prior to his passing, the late basketball icon also served as vice mayor and councilor in Pasig City.
