Malacañang announced on Thursday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignation of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy.
Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro confirmed the resignation through a text message to reporters.
“DICT Sec. Ivan John Uy’s resignation was accepted by the President today,” said Castro.
“An OIC will fill the position until the President appoints a secretary,” she added.
Uy expressed his sincere gratitude to President Marcos Jr. for giving him the opportunity to serve the Filipino people.
In a statement released on Friday, the DICT recognized Uy’s invaluable contributions to accelerating digital transformation within the bureaucracy and strengthening the country’s ICT sector.
"The DICT assures the public that there will be no disruption in its services amid the leadership transition. The Department looks forward to welcoming its new Officer-in-Charge who will complete President Marcos' vision of an inclusive and innovative Bagong Pilipinas for all," the agency added.
Notably, Uy becomes the third Cabinet member to step down, joining former Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez.
Bautista resigned from his position due to health reasons and was subsequently replaced by Vince Dizon as the new Transportation Secretary.
Last month, PCO Secretary Cesar Chavez resigned, and Jay Ruiz has since been appointed as the Ad Interim Secretary of the agency.
