Malacañang confirmed on Thursday that Secretary Jaime Bautista has stepped down from his position at the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
In a statement, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin revealed that health reasons were behind Bautista's resignation.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Vivencio “Vince” Bringas Dizon as the new Secretary of DOTr, effective February 21.
"He has been authorized by the Office of the President to begin the transition at the DOTr in coordination with the team of Secretary Jaime Bautista, who has resigned due to health reasons," said Bersamin.
Dizon previously served as the President and CEO of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Deputy Chief Implementer of the National Action Plan during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Presidential Adviser on Flagship Programs and Projects under the Duterte administration.
The DOTr confirmed Bautista’s resignation in a post, where he conveyed his gratitude to the President for the chance to serve in government, calling it his "most challenging stint."
Furthermore, he described his time as DOTr Secretary as the most enriching of his career, having served with the utmost integrity.
Bautista expressed his anticipation for a smooth transition, after which he plans to take a much-needed vacation to recover from two and a half years of public service.
