The state weather bureau on Wednesday lowered the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) in Batanes and Babuyan Islands from 4 to 3 as Super Typhoon (STY) Goring, also known by its international name Saola, left Balintang Channel in Luzon Strait.

According to PAGASA's latest bulletin, the center of the eye of STY Goring was located 90 kilometers (km) west southwest of Basco, Batanes at 7 AM.

STY Goring has maximum sustained winds of 195 km per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 240 kph while accelerating west northwestward at 15 kph.

The state weather bureau raised TCWS 1, 2, and 3 in the following areas:

  • Batanes
  • the northern and western portions of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Is., Calayan Is., and Dalupiri Is.)

TCWS NO. 2

  • The rest of Babuyan Islands
  • The northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Adams, Bangui, Dumalneg, Burgos)
  • The extreme northwestern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Sanchez Mira, Claveria, Pamplona, Abulug)

TCWS NO. 1

  • The northern and central portions of Cagayan (Solana, Tuao, Iguig, Amulung, Santo Niño, Piat, Rizal, Lasam, Gattaran, Santa Ana, Gonzaga, LalLo, Santa Teresita, Buguey, Baggao, Alcala, Camalaniugan, Aparri, Allacapan, Ballesteros)
  • Apayao
  • The northern portion of Kalinga (Balbalan, Pinukpuk)
  • The northern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lagayan, Lacub, Malibcong,
  • San Juan, Danglas, La Paz, Dolores, Bangued, Lagangilang, Licuan-Baay)
  • The rest of Ilocos Norte, and the extreme northern portion of Ilocos Sur (Sinait, Cabugao, San Juan, Magsingal)

"The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction," PAGASA said.

The state weather bureau said it forecasted that Goring will remain under the super typhoon category until it departs the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday or Thursday morning.
