The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said on Sunday that the Occidental Mindoro provincial government delivered solar lights on Sunday to some villages on Lubang Island.

The province is constantly plagued by power outages, particularly during the summer months when the demand for electricity is high and supply is limited.

In an interview on Sunday, PDRRMO head Mario Mulingbayan Jr. stated that the delivery and pending installation of the solar lights "is part of disaster preparedness" and to improve security.

He noted that the street lamps were delivered in response to previous requests from village chiefs.

Solar-powered lights are known to be both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

Mailyn Legaspi, team leader of the PDRRMO's Lubang sub-office, thanked the agencies that contributed to the streetlighting project.

According to the provincial government, it will continue to install solar streetlights in various villages, schools, and hospitals.
