Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena won a silver medal in the 2021 Kamila Skolimowska Memorial athletics meet in Chorzów, Poland.
Obiena shared the second place of the men's pole vault event with KC Lightfoot of United States after both athletes cleared 5.80 meters on Sunday, September 5.
American pole vaulter Chris Nilsen cleared 5.86 meters to bring home the gold medal.
Obiena managed to clear 5.80 meters in his second attempt for the said height, and tried to set a new national record by clearing 5.92 meters but failed following two tries.
The 25-year old pole vaulter recently qualified for the finals of the Diamond League, which will run from September 8 and 9, in Zurich, Switzerland after he finished among the top 10 in the 2021 Allianz Memorial Van Damme held in Brussels, Belgium.
In the said athletics event, Obiena cleared 5.65 meters.
