EJ delivers yet another remarkable victory!
World No. 4 and Filipino pole vaulter, Ernest John "EJ" Obiena, captured another gold medal with a spectacular "leap of faith" at the Taiwan International Pole Vault Championship.
The foggy weather did little to hinder the Filipino Olympian, who still managed to secure another win, marking the start of his outdoor season with yet another triumph.
"Well, I decided to go for it and place my leap of faith in God’s hand. I am thankful to have won the competition under such “murky” conditions!" Obiena said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Obiena topped the Taiwan competition with a 5.50-meter clearance, while fellow Filipinos Hokett delos Santos and Francis Allen Sillar posted impressive marks of 5.15 meters and 3.91 meters, respectively.
"We can’t always have sunny skies and perfect weather conditions. We have to persevere through all kinds of adversity. This was a new kind of adversity and I definitely learned from it!" said Obiena.
This wasn’t Obiena’s first time competing under difficult conditions. At the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia, he also triumphed despite heavy rainfall and strong winds on his way to winning gold.
