Filipino pole vaulter and Olympian EJ Obiena maintained his strong form, clearing a season-best 5.80 meters to secure the gold medal at the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland, on Monday (Manila time).
The World No. 4 cleared 5.80 meters on his third attempt to claim victory, outshining Poland’s Piotr Lisek and Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, who both cleared 5.70 meters.
Lisek earned the silver medal, while Guttormsen settled for bronze following a countback.
This win marked a strong redemption for Obiena, following his 7th-place finish at the ISTAF Indoor in Düsseldorf, Germany.
On February 8, the two-time Olympian secured his first gold of the 2025 indoor season at the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor in France.
During the competition, Obiena cleared 5.70 meters, narrowly defeating Menno Vloon of the Netherlands, who also reached the same height but lost in the tiebreaker, settling for second place. Christopher Nilsen of the USA took third after clearing 5.60 meters.
He kicked off his indoor season with a strong performance, clinching the silver medal at the International Jump Meeting Cottbus at the Lausitz-Arena in Germany.
