Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena snagged a bronze medal on Tuesday, June 27, in the 2023 Ostava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic.
The 27-year-old Asian record holder cleared 5.90 meters to place third in the tournament.
Kurtis Marschall also cleared 5.90 meters but the Australian pole vaulter won the silver medal over Obiena due to countback.
Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, an Olympic gold medalist and world-record holder, registered 6.12 meters to claim the gold medal.
Obiena currently prepares to compete in the BAUHAUS-Galan meet of the Diamond League, an Olympic qualifier, in Sweden.
The Filipino pole vaulter needs to clear 5.82 meters in the athletics meet that will begin on July 2 in order to secure a spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
