The magnitude-7.3 earthquake that hit Vanuatu on Thursday did not pose a tsunami threat to the Philippines, according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

"There is no destructive tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," said PHILVOCS in its bulletin issued o Thursday evening, Dec. 7

Meanwhile, Phivolcs said Hazardous tsunami waves are still possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.

Vanuatu is located over 5,800 kilometers southeast of the Philippines.
