

Several local government units (LGUs) and universities announced a suspension of in-person classes for Monday, Oct. 16 due to the nationwide transport strike or tigil pasada as declared by transport group Manibela.
As of Sunday, Oct. 15, the following LGUs cancelled classes at all levels in public and private schools:
- Parañaque
- Marikina City
- Pampanga province (from Oct. 16 to 17)
- Santa Rosa, Laguna
- Lingayen, Pangasinan
- Angeles City (from Oct. 16 to 17)
- Cabuyao City, Laguna
Dagupan LGU only suspended classes in elementary to high school in public, while Binmaley LGU suspended classes in preschool to senior high school in public and private.
The universities below also announced class cancelation:
- De La Salle University - Manila campus
- University of Santo Tomas
- University of the East - Manila and Caloocan campuses
- National University
- San Beda University - Manila and Rizal campuses
- Lyceum of the Philippines University
- Adamson University
- Our Lady of Fatima University - Pampanga and Laguna campuses
- Polytechnic University of the Philippines - all branches and campuses
Last Oct. 10, Samahang Manibela announced that it would conduct a nationwide transportation strike in protest against the government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUV-MP).
The “Magnificent 7”, the largest transport group in the country, will not participate in the nationwide transport strike, Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP) President Orlando Marquez told DZRH last Saturday, Oct. 14.
