La Castellana, Negros Occidental Mayor Rhumyla Mangilimutan ordered a forced evacuation on Wednesday, June 5, after the lahar flowing from Mt. Kanlaon reached the residences.
"It is because ang lahar na dumaloy sa daan ay hanggang tuhod," Mangilimutan said during DZRH Public Service Hour.
While the lahar flow has stopped, the local chief executive is urging her constituents to evacuate since fears that another one will happen due to the heavy rains in the area.
"May mga malaking bato na kasama kanina doon sa malakas na pagdaloy ng lahar. Iyon ang dapat natin bantayan kasi baka mamayang gabi, kapag umulan ng umulan, at saka lumaki ang density ng lahar," Mangilimutan stressed.
Mangilimutan said that more than 300 families evacuated but assured that La Castellana did not record any injuries or deaths.
The mayor also assured that she ordered the deployment of dump trucks, and backhoes to clear the roads from rocks.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised Alert Level 2 over Mt. Kanlaon after the volcano erupted and produced a 5,000 meter plume on Monday, June 3.
