

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday that more than 2,733,646 individuals have been affected by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat and recent tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong.
According to the NDRRMC’s 6:00 a.m. update, at least 2,080 families or nearly 5,900 individuals were preemptively evacuated across Regions I, II, CAR, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, VI, and Caraga due to continuous heavy rains and flood threats.
Twelve individuals have been confirmed dead as of Thursday morning, consistent with the Philippine National Police (PNP) report released on Wednesday, July 23.
Fatalities were primarily due to drowning, falling debris, and electrocution, while missing persons were mostly swept away by floodwaters or strong currents.
Moreover, the agency also said that casualties included 8 injured, and 8 missing.
NDRRMC reported that 765,869 families from 3,712 barangays have been directly affected, with more data expected as communication lines are restored in impacted areas.
More than 2,431 houses were damaged, including 423 totally destroyed and 2,008 partially damaged.
Meanwhile, infrastructure damage has been estimated at P3.7 billion, while losses in the agriculture sector have reached P366,377,015.72.
A total of 1,000 evacuation centers are currently used by over 51,000 displaced families.
As of this report, 1,110 barangays remain flooded, while waters have subsided in 930 areas.
Due to bad weather and floods suspensions were also declared in 812 workplaces and over 1,049 class settings.
Critical lifelines were also affected and have been disrupted in several areas, such as 13 cities experienced power outages, 1 had no water, and another reported downed communication lines.
Additionally, 104 road sections and 14 bridges remain impassable.
As of writing, forty cities and municipalities in Regions I, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, VI, and the National Capital Region have declared a state of calamity to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts.
In addition, assistance worth P181 million has been distributed to affected families, while LGUs and agencies received P8.4 million in aid.
