The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 will be exclusively for domestic flights starting July 1, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) confirmed on Monday.

Interviewed during Laging Handa briefing, MIAA Assistant General Manger Bryan Co said that NAIA-2 was originally designed for domestic flights only.

"By doing this, we are making the terminal design more efficient and according to what it is intended for," he said.

"Bukod dito, mag-increase din ang terminal capacity na by around 20 to 25 percent because it would be dedicated for domestic flights po," Co added.

The MIAA Assistant General Manager also pointed out that the plan would help improve the airport system as some Immigration staff would be redeployed.

"Halimbawa, ang [Bureau of] Immigration ay na-pull out na natin sa Terminal 2, ang kanilang mga tauhan ay maire-redeploy na natin sa ibang existing terminals natin, which is Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 upang makatulong sa pago-augment ng manpower requirements natin doon dahil isa po ito sa mga nakaka-contribute sa paghaba ng pila," he explained.

According to Co, some international flights of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) has been transferred from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 in December last year.

The remaining international flights of the PAL will be moved on June 16.
