The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested a suspect in the 2020 murder of Cebu lawyer Joey Luis Wee at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), authorities confirmed Thursday, June 5.
Manuelito Melia Camacho, also known as "Monching," was apprehended by the NBI's International Airport Investigation Division (IAID) following a record check that linked him to a murder case filed by the NBI Cebu District Office (CEBDO).
Camacho was initially detained under the name Jay-R Reyes after being arrested by the Airport Police for theft and related offenses. During his detention, a dispute with his partner led to the revelation of his true identity.
A record check later confirmed that Camacho had an outstanding arrest warrant for murder, issued by Branch 10 of the Cebu City Regional Trial Court. NBI agents then served the warrant at the Airport Police office in Pasay, where Camacho admitted to being the same person charged in the case.
Lawyer Joey Luis Wee was gunned down on November 23, 2020, in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City, as he walked to his office.
The case was investigated by the NBI-CEBDO.
Meanwhile, NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago (Ret.) commended the IAID, CEBDO, and Airport Police for their coordination and efforts that led to Camacho’s arrest. He underscored the agency’s continued commitment to delivering swift justice through effective law enforcement cooperation.
