The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) on Thursday announced its approval of Manila Water and Maynilad's price charge hike effective in 2023.

In a press release, MWSS-RO said it has approved the increase of Php 8.04 per cubic meter for Manila Water.

The agency noted that Manila Water’s environmental charge will increase from 20 percent to 25 percent in 2023, and from 25 percent to 30 percent in 2026.

"Sewer Charge to increase starting 2023, subject to Manila Water's attainment of sewer coverage of 30% by the end of 2025," it added.

Meanwhile, there will be a Php 3.29 per cubic meter increase for Maynilad.

It noted that Maynilad will implement staggered rebasing convergence adjustments in 2024, subject to its attainment of water supply, continuity, and coverage targets as stipulated in its 2022 approved business plan.

Likewise, Maynilad’s environmental charge will increase from 20 percent to 25 percent starting in 2025, subject to its attainment of sewer coverage of 25 percent toward the year-end of 2024.

"These rate adjustments will enable Manila Water and Maynilad to provide the highest quality water, sanitation, and sewerage services that their customers deserve,” the MWSS-RO said.

“These include the development of additional water sources that will ensure continuous improvements in the supply of safe drinking water as well as the expansion of environmentally safe water within the Concession Areas,” it added.

The MWSS-RO said no tariff adjustments shall be made until Dec. 31.
