Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon announced on Thursday, August 14, the start of construction for the new Kamuning Footbridge, popularly known as “Mt. Kamuning.”
The footbridge, located along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) near Kamuning Road, became an online sensation in recent years, sparking a wave of reactions and memes on social media.
In a report by Val Gonzales, the construction follows the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who personally visited the site months ago and ordered improvements to provide greater convenience for commuters.
According to Secretary Dizon, the DOTr aims to build on its successful projects in partnership with the local government unit of Quezon City, such as bike lanes and public parks.
“Nakita niyo naman yung napakagandang mga bike lanes and parks na tinayo natin in partnership with this city. Tapos na, patapos na. And we really want to do more,” Dizon said.
He also stressed the need to address the inconvenience faced by both MRT passengers and EDSA carousel commuters in the area.
The DOTr has committed to completing the new footbridge and the accompanying busway station by December.
