The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will provide free rides on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 starting at noon this Friday, August 22, to assist commuters affected by class suspensions and worsening weather conditions in Metro Manila.
This initiative follows President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to offer free transportation services, after reports emerged that several local government units suspended classes due to the threat of heavy rainfall.
In their public advisory, the DOTr emphasized that the safety and well-being of all passengers remain their top priority, ensuring that commuters can return home quickly and safely during adverse weather.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed that the Low Pressure Area (LPA) over Luzon has developed into a tropical cyclone named “Isang.”
The agency continues to monitor the system closely as it may bring significant rainfall to parts of Luzon.
