Beginning August 31, 2024, motorists without RFID stickers or those with insufficient load will be fined when passing through the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

According to Ruben Ignacio, the spokesperson for NLEX, the implementation aims to help alleviate heavy traffic flow at toll plazas. He stated that the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and expressway concessionaires are working together to ensure the readiness of the Joint Management Committee (JMC).

Ignacio added that further details will be made available by the regulators in the coming days.

Under the JMC's penalty guidelines, the fines for lacking an RFID device are as follows:

  • First offense: ₱1,000
  • Second offense: ₱2,000
  • Subsequent offenses: ₱5,000
