At least 155 individuals evacuated in Canlaon, Negros Oriental after Mt. Kanalon erupted last Monday, June 3.
Canlaon Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas said on Wednesday, June 5, that the six-minutes long eruption affected five barangays within the municipality.
The local chief executive said that the eruption also affected at least 1,600 farmers and 1,300 livestock growers.
Cardenas also assured that the Canlaon has enough resources to provide for the needs of 20,000 individuals for 10 days.
The local government also activated the incident command system in response to the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.
"It is on duty, 24/7, so that if there is a need to give warning to our constituents, mobilize resources of the government to address the needs of every individual in case there is an eruption, it will be activated immediately," Cardenas said during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.
The Philippine Institute Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that the 'moderately explosive eruption' of Mt. Kanlaon produced a five kilometer-high voluminous eruption plume.
The eruption caused PHIVOLCS to place Mt. Kanlaon under Alert Level 2.
PHIVOLCS also warned the public from the four kilometer radius permanent danger zone around Mt. Kanlaon due to possible occurence of small-magnitude volcanic hazards in the area.
