A relative of the 4-year-old girl Malia Kates Yuchen Masongsong, who died in the accident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 confirmed that the child’s mother, who remains in the hospital, is now aware of her daughter’s fate.

Dona, the young victim’s aunt, said that Cynthia, Malia’s mother, has been transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City and is now recovering from the injuries she suffered in the accident.

Despite her physical pain and ongoing recovery, Malia’s mother is determined to regain her strength so she can attend the wake of her only daughter in Lipa City, Batangas.

Dona shared that the grieving mother, underwent surgery to remove her spleen and still requires therapy to walk, has been forcing herself to eat despite her injuries in hopes of leaving the hospital soon.

She further shared that Cynthia broke down in tears upon confirming the heartbreaking news of her daughter’s passing just yesterday.

While still at NAIA, the child’s mother already had a sense that her daughter was gone as she could hear the screams and cries of her husband in the ambulance.

According to the family, after leaving the ICU, Cynthia kept asking the hospital staff if her daughter was there too.

Danmark, Malia’s father, remains at the hospital in Taguig to stay by his wife’s side and has not yet been able to visit their daughter’s wake in Batangas. It is still uncertain when he will be able to travel.

Malia’s mother, her grandmother, and her 7-year-old cousin were among the four people hurt in the tragic incident at NAIA Terminal 1 last Sunday.

There is a possibility that the grandmother of the young victim could be discharged from the hospital on May 7, and visit her granddaughter’s wake in Lipa City.

Several government officials have already expressed their condolences in person. Among them were Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon and Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, who both visited the grieving family.
