The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) temporarily suspended its operations following unfavorable weather conditions.
"The MIAA Airport Ground Operations and Safety Division (AGOSD) has issued a Red Lightning Alert at 11:45 AM / 1145H. Flight and ground operations are temporarily suspended," said MIAA in an advisory.
MIAA said that the red lightning alert is a "safety measure taken to prevent untoward incidents from happening when lightning is prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger personnel, passengers, and even flight operations."
A red lightning alert halts all ground operations and aircraft movements at the airport, including boarding, disembarkation, aircraft parking, baggage handling and all support activities.
The mandatory halt of airport operations is a safety measure to protect passengers and personnel when there is lightning activity.
