The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has expressed its dismay over the incident where the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) officer was spotted stealing and swallowing $300 from a departing passenger.
The incident happened on September 8, when a checkpoint supervisor reported that a passenger lost $300 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1. CCTV footage then showed a female security officer stealing and swallowing the missing cash.
In a statement, Senior Assistant General Manager (GM) Bryan Co said that the unlawful act completely nags the MIAA's efforts to improve the service levels at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Meanwhile, Co acknowledged OTS for their effort to resolve and investigate the said incident.
"We trust the leadership of the Office for Transportation Security. Their immediate request for viewing of the CCTV footage shortly after the incident happened is a manifestation of their resolve to take quick action against erring personnel," said Co.
"We believe that they are doing what is necessary to police their ranks and protect the reputation of the greater majority of frontliners who remain true to their oath of office," he added.
Based on the initial investigation, OTS confirmed that there was a conspiracy behind the incident involving other personnel inside the airport.
The OTS has completed the initial investigation into the erring personnel, who are currently under preventive suspension, while the comprehensive investigation is ongoing.
