Navotas City develops housing projects to relocate residents living in places deemed as danger areas after a fire razed a residential area in Brgy, Bagumbayan on Monday, November 14.
Navotas City Nayor John Rey Tiangco provided assurance that the city government has taken steps to ensure the safety of his constituents following the incident.
Tiangco admitted that the area has been long classified as a danger zone.
"Ang problema naman ay yung pabahay ay hindi iyan magic na magagawa kaagad," the local chief executive said on Tuesday, November 15, during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.
Tiangco clarified that the threat of high tide and constant rain prompted Navotas City to classify the area as a danger zone.
"Itong tabing-dagat na ito, danger area talaga ito kaya nga dati binabantayan namin dito kapag high tide at sa kapag may bagyo," Tiangco said.
"Ginawaan na natin sila ng dike kaya protektado na sila sa higj tide at saka kapag may bagyo. Ang problema naman ay biglang meron sunog," he added.
At least five people perished, including a two-year old child, due to the fire that reached up to Task Force Alpha before responders managed to put the blaze under control at 8:29PM.
