President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Henry Rhoel Aguda, the former President and CEO of UnionDigital Bank, as the new Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Aguda will be taking over the position from Ivan John Uy, who resigned earlier this month.
On March 6, Malacañang announced that President Marcos Jr. had accepted Ivan John Uy’s resignation. Following the resignation, Paul Joseph Mercado was assigned to serve as the officer-in-charge of the agency.
The new DICT chief previously held the position of Digital Infrastructure Lead at the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), a body established by President Marcos to help his administration promote innovative collaborations between the private and public sectors.
Furthermore, his career spans across the banking, technology, and telecommunications industries. Before joining UnionDigital Bank, he held the position of board chairman at both City Savings Bank and UBX Philippines.
He has also held various leadership roles, including serving as a director for Insular Health Care, BancNet, Metaverse Ventures and Platforms, and the Philippine Clearing House Corp.
Additionally, he was the senior executive vice president at Union Bank of the Philippines, and the chief technology officer at Amihan Global Strategies, Globe Telecom, the Government Service Insurance System, and Digitel.
His professional experience spans various sectors, having managed software development services at WeServ Systems International, led information operations at Nextel, worked as assistant vice president at Bayantel Communication Holdings, and overseen the corporate data network for Meralco.
Aguda specializes in digital transformation, digital banking, and preventing financial crimes.
