Paul Joseph Mercado, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary for Special Concerns, has been assigned as the agency's officer-in-charge.
The announcement was made by Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro in a text message to reporters on Monday.
Mercado assumes leadership of the DICT just days after the resignation of former secretary Ivan John Uy.
No details have been released regarding the reasons for Uy’s resignation from his position.
Uy becomes the third Cabinet member to vacate his post, following former Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez.
Meanwhile, Mercado previously led the Philippine delegation at the 5th ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting in January, which took place in Bangkok, Thailand.
