The Philippine National Police (PNP) will shift its strategy in combating illegal drugs by targeting the sources and supply chains instead of concentrating solely on street-level dealers and users.
This recalibrated approach, spearheaded by PNP Chief General Rommel Marbil, aims to be more effective and less violent by focusing on high-value drug figures considered to be at the core of the issue.
Marbil thinks that the previous anti-drug efforts were ineffective, comparing the drug problem to the Hydra, a mythical beast that continuously reemerges when its heads are severed.
Under the new strategy, intelligence operations will be intensified and community engagement will be increased to quickly identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks.
Marbil highlighted that the new approach is a critical measure in achieving President Marcos Jr.'s aim for a more secure and safer Philippines.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. advocates for a bloodless campaign against illegal drugs in the country.
