President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s eldest son, Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos III was elected the House majority leader of the 20th Congress on Monday, July 28.
The 31-year-old is possibly the youngest to assume the post. He was elected during the first regular session for the 20th Congress after being nominated by acting floor leader Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor.
After hearing no objections, the motion was approved by re-elected House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez. Previously the senior deputy majority leader during his first term as legislator, Marcos has taken on a higher role, succeeding former Majority leader Zamboanga Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe.
The Majority leader will also be the Chairman of the Committee on Rules, placing the preparation of the House’s legislative agenda under his charge. He also serves as a mediator between lawmakers with competing interests.
