The Palace stated that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s position against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte remains unchanged, following Iglesia Ni Cristo's "National Rally for Peace" on Monday, January 13.
In a report by RH Leth Narciso, Malacañang addressed on Tuesday the question of whether the rally influenced the President's stance against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that President Marcos' view on the House of Representative's action remains consistent, noting that there is much more to be done for the country.
The INC held their 'rally' at the Quirino Grandstand, drawing millions of members from across Metro Manila and neighboring provinces to support the President's call to not push through with the impeachment proceedings against the Vice President.
Earlier, Marcos publicly expressed his opposition to filing any impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte.
He argued that removing Duterte from office would be a waste of time. He also stated that impeaching her would not change the lives of any Filipino.
Additionally, he explained that the impeachment process would ultimately "tie down" the House and the Senate, consuming all their time with no productive outcome.
Currently, Vice President Sara Duterte is facing three impeachment complaints on various grounds, including betrayal of public trust, due to the alleged misuse of confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) under her leadership.
