by Christhel Cuazon07 December 2023

The Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City announced on Thursday that their in-person classes and other academic activities will resume on Monday, December 11 — almost a week since the deadly bomb attack in the university's gymnasium last Sunday.

The bombing occurred amidst a Catholic Student Mass in MSU's Dimaporo Gymnasium at around 7 AM on Sunday, December 3, and killed four individuals and wounded 45 others.

“In-person classes and academic activities resume on the 11th of December 2023 and end on the 22nd of December 2023,” MSU said in a memorandum dated Thursday.

The university added that the victims of the bomb attack will be exempted from attending classes and complying with academic requirements during the period of their recuperation.

They also assured that more military, police, and other security personnel will be deployed to the campus. Regular inspections will be conducted in offices, classrooms, and other buildings.

MSU also announced that mental health and psychosocial support services will be offered to all students and faculty.

“While acknowledging the anxiety and distress the incident has caused among our constituents, the university assures its community of comprehensive measures being undertaken to create a safe and conducive environment for learning and working,” MSU said.

“We urge everyone to cooperate with our security personnel and report any suspicious activity immediately. Your vigilance and cooperation are vital in ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on campus,” it added.

Based on the suspects' profiles released by the PNP, Kadapi has cases of kidnapping, serious illegal detention, and violation of illegal possession of explosives. Meanwhile, Arsani has a murder case.

In an interview, AFP spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar admitted that there was a 'failure of intelligence' in the latest bombing incident, saying that the radar does not always point to some events, such as the blowing up of MSU.
