Authorities have arrested one of the alleged 'accomplice' in the deadly bomb attack on Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City last December 3, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Friday.

In a statement, AFP said the combined troops of Task Force Marawi and the Marawi City police captured a certain Jafar Famo Sultan aka Jaf/Kurot, a "companion of a certain Omar, the person identified by witnesses to have placed the improvised explosive device at the Dimaporo Gymnasium" in MSU.

The suspect was captured on Wednesday during an operation in Barangay Dulay Proper, Marawi.

"This development shows the seriousness of the government in capturing the perpetrators of the terrorist attack on innocent civilians," the AFP statement read.

The bombing occurred amidst a Catholic Student Mass in MSU's Dimaporo Gymnasium at around 7 AM on Sunday, December 3, and killed four individuals and wounded 45 others.

On Wednesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that the two suspects in the explosionwere identified as Kadapi Mimbesa and Arsani Membesa, who are both members of the Dawlah Islamiya (DI)-Maute group.

In an interview, AFP spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar admitted that there was a 'failure of intelligence' in the latest bombing incident, saying that the radar does not always point to some events, such as the blowing up of MSU.
