On Thursday, the Manila Local Government Unit (LGU) provided financial assistance to 400 families whose homes were destroyed by the severe rain and wind caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon in Manila.
The affected families are from the 1st and 3rd districts of Manila, specifically from Isla Putting Bato and Parola Compound.
“Sila ‘yung mga nagiba ang bahay, nilipad ang bahay dahil sila’y nakatira sa tabing dagat," Manila Social Welfare Deparment (MSWD) Director Re Fugoso said in an interview with DZRH on Thursday.
The Manila LGU provided P10,000 in aid to those who lost their homes and P3,000 to those with partially damaged houses. In addition, medical services and food for affected individuals will be provided while they stay at the evacuation center.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna personally visited the evacuation centers to give financial aid to the families displaced by Typhoon Carina and habagat. More than 700 families affected in both districts 1 and 3 of Manila are staying at the evacuation center.
Aside from financial assistance, tents and hot meals will be provided to the evacuees as well.
The MSWD reported that over 4,400 families in Manila have been affected, totaling more than 20,000 individuals.
