The City Government of Makati has lifted the closure order it had imposed against PLDT wireless subsidiary, Smart Communications Inc.’s main office at Ayala Avenue in Makati, after the submission of documents and signing of the compromise agreement.
In a statement, PLDT said the settlement was reached after Smart submitted to Makati City's Treasurer's Office the necessary documents including the breakdown of the revenue it generated nationwide.
“This development follows the parties’ execution of a compromise agreement on March 2, 2023, stating the terms of their pending local taxation issues,” it added.

PLDT echoed Smart's earlier statement that it “remains committed to complying with Makati City's local tax ordinances, and with applicable national laws, in respect of local taxation.”
“Smart assures the public and its customers that services remain available and accessible to all," it added.
Meanwhile, Makati city legal officer and spokesman Michael Camiña confirmed that the shutdown order has been lifted.
"We confirm that the closure order issued against Smart Communications, Inc. has been lifted following the submission of documents in compliance with an earlier government order and court rulings," he said.
"Again, we would like to remind all businesses operating in the city to comply with city ordinances and regulations," Camiña added.
On February 27, the Makati City government shut down the main office of Smart Communication for allegedly operating without a business permit over the last four years as well as failing to settle its P3.2-billion franchise tax deficiency.
