The Luzon and Visayas grids will be under yellow alert on Tuesday, May 21, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In its latest advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert in Luzon Grid will take effect from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM and 7:00 PM-10:00 PM.
Luzon grid's available capacity is at 14,687 megawatts with a peak demand of 13,507 megawatts.
"3 plants have been on forced outage since 2023, 4 between January and March 2024, and 11 power plants between April and May 2024; while 6 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 2,075.8MW unavailable to the grid," the NGCP advisory read.
Meanwhile, the Visayas grid will be under yellow alert from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM.
The available capacity of the grid is at 2,933 megawatts with a peak demand of 2,614 megawatts.
"1 plant has been on forced outage since 2022, 2 since 2023, 2 between January and March 2024, and 11 power plants between April and May 2024; while 5 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 514.1MW unavailable to the grid," the NGCP said.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
