The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Tuesday extended the provisional authority (PA) or franchise of traditional jeepneys until June 30.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 013 signed by LTFRB chairperson Teofilo ‘Jojo’ Guadiz II and three other board members, it said that "individuals may continue to operate by virtue of a PA, which automatically extended until June 30, 2023."
Individual operators may also join existing consolidated entities or corporations on or before June 30, 2023.
"Only those individuals who are able to join an existing consolidated entity on or before June 30, 2023, shall be allowed to have their PA extended until December 31, 2023," the order reads.
Meanwhile, it said that existing consolidated entities "may still accept additional members, whether individuals, operators, or those who have formed another juridical entity and have expressed their desire to join them."
It was noted that the newly-formed juridical entity must be accredited by the Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC) or registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) no later than August 31, 2023.
On February 7, the LTFRB first set the deadline for the traditional jeepneys franchise in April.
