The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has approved the minimum fare hike for modern and traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs), public utility buses (PUBs), taxi and transport network vehicle service (TNVS) nationwide.

In an order released on Friday, Sept. 16, the LTFRB said that starting the first week of October, the minimum fare for the traditional PUJs will be Php 12, while modern PUJs at Php 14. It granted a Php 1 increase for the four kilometers.

As per the succeeding kilometer, the fare will increase to Php 1.80 from Php 1.50 for traditional PUJs. While an increase of Php 2.20 from Php 1.80 for modern PUPJs.

For PUBs, the minimum fare for an ordinary bus will be Php 13, for the city bus at Php 15, and for the provincial bus at Php 11. The LTFRB approved Php 2 increase for the five kilometers.

The fare would increase from Php 0.30 to Php 0.50, depending on the type of bus, for the succeeding kilometer.

Meanwhile, the flag down rate or minimum fare for taxi and sedan-type TNVS will be Php 45, the AUV/SUV-type TNVS will be Php 55, and the hatchback/SUV at Php 35. The agency approved a Php 5 increase.

The were no increase in succeeding kilometer for the taxi and TNVS.

“The 20% discount for senior citizens, persons with disability, and students will still be effective,“ the LTFRB said.

The fare hike comes after the petitions of transport groups and the continuous rise of fuel prices in the country.

The LTFRB noted that the decision was made after consultation with the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and different stakeholders.

The agency reminded drivers to act in accordance with the agency’s guidelines and policies, and to follow the public safety protocols.

“Violators will be dealt with accordingly,“ it added.
