Officials of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) met with members of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) on Monday, November 20, amidst the transport strike of the group.
LTFRB chairperson Teofillo Guadiz III expressed hope that PISTON will end the planned three-day transport strike.
"Alang-alang sa sambayanan Pilipino sana iksian nila ang strike na ito dahil at the end of the day ay kawawa yung mga kabayan natin na walang masakyan," Guadiz said.
He vowed that LTFRB will study the concerns raised by the transport group on the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.
PISTON organized a three-day transport strike to protest PUV modernization program, particularly the condition that requires operators to consolidate as a cooperative by December 31, 2023.
"Isa-isahin natin tignan yung process. Hindi yung buong consolidation ang tignan ninyo. Ano ba yung mga process na ayaw ninyo? Ano ba yung mga tanggap ninyo," Guadiz stressed.
"Kung ano yung pwede namin ibigay ay ibibigay namin sa kanila," the LTFRB chief added.
PISTON national president Mody Floranda said that he will consult with regional sub-units of the group on whether to continue or end the three-day transport strike.
"Kung ang decision ng mga rehiyon ay tapusin yung tatlong araw (transport strike), handa namin tapusin ang tatlong araw na pagkilos," Floranda said.
