The recent increase in the minimum fare for modern and traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs), public utility buses (PUBs), taxi and transport network vehicle service (TNVS), which takes effect on Monday, Oct. 3, will be the last for this year, according to a board member of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
"When we tried to compute the fare hike, we saw that we don't have to raise the fares so often. I think this is the last that you're [going to] see for the year even if the fuel price will really move up," LTFRB board member Riza Paches said in an interview.
"We didn't just look at one-time increase but it's a periodic increase between 0-8 months, so I think if you really see a fare increase in the near future, it's going to be earlier than 1 year," she added.
Starting Monday, the minimum fare for the traditional PUJs will be Php 12, while modern PUJs at Php 14. It granted a Php 1 increase for the four kilometers.
As per the succeeding kilometer, the fare will increase to Php 1.80 from Php 1.50 for traditional PUJs. While an increase of Php 2.20 from Php 1.80 for modern PUPJs.
For PUBs, the minimum fare for an ordinary bus will be Php 13, for the city bus at Php 15, and for the provincial bus at Php 11. The LTFRB approved Php 2 increase for the five kilometers.
The fare would increase from Php 0.30 to Php 0.50, depending on the type of bus, for the succeeding kilometer.
Meanwhile, the flag down rate or minimum fare for taxi and sedan-type TNVS will be Php 45, the AUV/SUV-type TNVS will be Php 55, and the hatchback/SUV at Php 35. The agency approved a Php 5 increase.
