A photojournalist and his three family members were injured in a shooting incident in Brgy. Masambong, Quezon City on Thursday, June 29.
Based on an initial report from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the photojournalists were identified as Joshua Abiad who is working under Remate News Online.
He was reportedly seen with his three family relatives outside their house when they were shot by two unidentified male onboard a silver Toyota vios at around 3:50 PM.
The witness named Rodrigo Catacutan y Valmes, a 46-year-old delivery rider, said that the two suspects were headed toward Del Monte Ave., Quezon City after the shooting.
Abiad reportedly sustained two gunshot wounds in his body.
The QCPD said a manhunt operation against the suspects had been launched.
In a statement, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Director Edgar Alan Okubo condemned the ambush attack against the photojournalist.
“This heinous act is an attack not only on the individuals involved but also on the freedom of the press and the values we hold dear as a society,” he said.
Okubo said it will conduct a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring justice to the victims.
“We stand in solidarity with the Media Community and vow to protect their rights and ensure their safety,” the NCRPO Regional Director furthered.
