Irene Marcos-Araneta will attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London on behalf of her older brother President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the Malacañang announced on Sunday, Sept. 18.
In a statement, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said Marcos-Araneta would be the "special representative" of Marcos Jr.
She will be accompanied by her husband, Gregorio Maria Araneta III, the chairman of Araneta Properties Inc.
"Mrs. Marcos-Araneta and her spouse will be attending the events for the State Funeral beginning with the Lying-in-State of the Queen taking place today," she added.
The President left the country on Sunday to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States which started last Sept. 13 and will end on Sept. 27.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier reported that the President is the first speaker in the high-level general debate and he would tackle his administration's priorities in his speech.
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in Britain, died peacefully at her home in Balmoral Castle, Scotland, last Sept. 8. She was 96 years old.
His oldest child, King Charles III succeeded her throne.
