The House of Representatives will conduct a separate investigation into the sinking of the oil tanker MT Terranova, which caused an oil spill in the waters of Bataan that reached nearby waters of Bulacan and other municipalities in Cavite.
Agri Partylist Representative Wilbert Lee filed House Resolution 1825 on Wednesday calling for a probe into the impact of the recent oil spill in Limay, Bataan.
Lee mentioned that this move aims to assess the extent of the damage caused by the oil spill to marine resources and the livelihood of fisherfolks in the affected areas.
Additionally, the representative stated that the resolution includes a plan to provide long-term assistance for fisherfolks who lost their livelihood and means of income following the incident.
The hearing will also investigate MT Terranova's alleged involvement in oil smuggling or "paihi" system.
Congressman Lee made the statement during his visit to the site where the tanker sank in the waters off Limay on July 25.
Previously, the Department of Justice (DOJ) mentioned that they are investigating the possible involvement of the sunken tanker in oil smuggling.
