The House of Representatives made sure to recognize not just the medal winners but also all the athletes who took part in the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympics.
A congressional reception for Filipino Olympian athletes was held early yesterday, August 14, right before their heroes' parade that traverse the streets of Manila.
Led by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Carlos Yulo received the Congressional Medal in acknowledgment of the honor he has brought to the country, for his stellar performance in the gymnastics event where he brought home two Olympic gold medals.
According to Romualdez, Yulo's victory symbolizes the excellence and resilience of Filipinos, demonstrating their ability to compete with the best athletes from around the world.
Along with Yulo, the congressional reception was dedicated to all Filipino athletes who took part in the Paris Olympics, including Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, who each earned a bronze medal.
The House of Representatives has given P6 million to Yulo, while Petecio and Villegas each received P1 million.
Previously, the House of Representatives approved House Resolutions 1864, 1915, and 1916 for Yulo, Petecio, and Villegas, respectively, as well as House Resolution 1917 for all 22 Filipino athletes who participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
