Following the overflowing of the Tullahan River, residents from Barangay North Fairview and Barangay Sta. Lucia is seeking assistance as the hanging bridge connecting the two barangays collapsed due to heavy rains and floods caused by the recent typhoons.
Quezon City District 5 Councilor and Chairperson of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction, Alfred Vargas, shared on Facebook that he, along with other local officials, inspected the damaged bridge. They announced that the Quezon City Local Government Unit (LGU) has plans to construct a permanent and safer bridge.
Vargas expressed understanding of the bridge's importance to the daily lives of residents in the affected areas. He mentioned that coordination with the two barangays, various transport organizations, and nearby schools will be undertaken.
In addition, QC Mayor Joy Belmonte visited the collapsed bridge and addressed the issue in a statement made on the Quezon City Government's page
“Bilang tugon sa mga daing ng mga residente, nais naming ipabatid na bahagi ng ating infrastructure plan ang pagpapagawa ng mas matibay at ligtas na tulay sa lugar. Magsisimula agad ang konstruksyon sa pangunguna ng City Engineering Department,” the Mayor stated.
The Traffic and Transport Management Department – Tricycle Regulatory Division (TTMD-TRD) is also arranging a better route for each TODA to ease the situation of the residents, especially the students.
Residents were advised to use the Atherton Bridge as an alternative way.
