The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have entered into a partnership that allows the MMDA to continue utilizing GSIS properties for initiatives focused on urban traffic management and road safety.
On December 18, GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso, MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando S. Artes, and MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana formally signed the agreement establishing the partnership.
The agreement stipulates that the Julia Vargas site in Pasig City will remain the location of the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy, which aims to improve road safety with proper rider instruction.
Julia Vargas site will also act as a temporary workspace for MMDA employees affected by office renovations, allowing their duties to continue seamlessly.
Furthermore, the GSIS Tumana property in Marikina will be repurposed into a vital hub for MMDA’s traffic operations, handling vehicle impounding and traffic enforcement.
Veloso noted that the initial property arrangement between GSIS and MMDA in 2015 has grown into a prime example of the positive outcomes that can result from true collaboration between government agencies.
“Today, we are not just signing agreements – we are building a blueprint for more responsive, efficient urban governance," he further stated.
Veloso highlighted that with major infrastructure projects such as the Metro Manila Subway and Quezon City Integrated Transport Hub underway, this partnership exemplifies a more intelligent approach to urban development.
