President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated on Saturday that the government is looking into building renewable energy sources in Oriental Mindoro, a province that frequently experiences power outages.
When asked how the province will cope with its decades-long problem, Marcos indicated they will search for renewables.
"Yung solar, kahit saan naman sa Pilipinas, puwede nating gamitin. Yung wind power pinag-aaralan nila, baka puwede din dito para hindi na unaasa ang Mindoro sa ibang lugar para sa kanilang kuryente," he said.
According to the president, the administration also considers connecting underwater cables in order to stabilize Mindoro's electricity supply.
"'Yung mga inaasahan namin ay submarine cable, kasi may mga area na malapit naman dito na may surplus, so puwede tayong kumuha doon pero ginagawa palang yung submarine cable," he explained.
Last year, the adjacent province of Occidental Mindoro declared a state of power crisis after multiple power outages harmed the quality of life in the two MIMAROPA provinces.
