A former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief allegedly helped dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo flee the country, according to Raul Villanueva, Senior Vice President of PAGCOR's Security and Monitoring Cluster.
During a joint Senate committee hearing on Tuesday, Villanueva testified that rumors within the intelligence community suggest that Guo's escape involved not only officers from the Bureau of Immigration but also a former PNP chief.
Villanueva further claimed that the former PNP chief had allegedly been receiving a "monthly payroll" from Guo.
"Actually ma'am, we haven't confirmed yet. [But] May mga usap-usapan po within the intelligence community," he said in response to Senator Risa Hontiveros' inquiry.
Hontiveros pressed for more details, asking which PNP units were implicated in the rumors. Villanueva clarified, "Hindi PNP unit, ma'am, but personalities. I think it was mentioned that it was the former PNP Chief."
Meanwhile, Senator Bato dela Rosa expressed concern that he might be suspected as the former PNP Chief mentioned. He questioned Guo directly to clarify the claims.
"Baka mamaya mayroong lalabas na script diyan na si Bato ay tumatanggap ng pera galing sa'yo, Alice Guo?" the senator asked.
"Wala pong ganon pong nangyayari," Guo responded.
"Sigurado ka? Kilala mo ba ako?" Bato pressed further.
Guo answered, "Nakita ko lang kayo nung nandito na sa Senate po."
She also confirmed that they had not met before.
