A female cadet led the Philippine Military Academy's (PMA) 'Bagong Sinag' class of 2024.
Jeneth Elumba, 24, of Surigao City, came out on top in a batch of initially 350 cadets.
Elumba dedicated the achievement to her father, a Criminology graduate who was unable to pursue a career in the field. He said it was a privilege to serve the country and encouraged her to join the military.
PMA Superintendent Lieutenant General Rowen Tolentino presented the Top 10 of the class of 2024 at Fort del Pilar this morning.
There are six other females in this list. At 4th place is Cyril Joy Masculino of Camarines Sur; 5th, Rosmel Dogello of Jamindan, Capiz; 6th, Alexa Mye Valen of Lanao del Norte; 8th, Giselle Tong of Tuguegarao, Cagayan; 9th, Danica Marie Viray from Pasay City; the 10th place is held by Neriva Binag from Cabagan, Isabela.
Quezon City's Mark Armuel Boiles took second place, Kim Harold Gilo of Butuan City took third, and Floyd Nino Arthur Roxas of Iloilo took the seventh.
The 278 first class cadets are due to graduate on May 18, 2024; 224 are male while 54 are female.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), will lead the graduation event.
A hundred and forty-four second lieutenants will be commissioned in the Philippine Army, 62 in the airforce, and 72 in the navy.
