Amidst the popularization of children toy lato-lato, the Food and Drug Administrator (FDA) has warned the public against buying and using unauthorized lato-lato with a glow in the dark handle.
In an advisory posted on Thursday, FDA said its postmarketing surveillance conducted on June 5 found that these lato-lato products have no Certificate of Product Notification (CPN).
The agency cited that under the provisions of the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009, "sale, distribution, transfer, promotion, advertising, or sponsorship of any product without proper authorization from the DFA is prohibited".
"Since the above mentioned unnotified toy and childcare article product has not gone through the notification process of the FDA, the agency cannot assure their quality and safety," it said.
The FDA warned that glowing lato-lato may cause injuries to an individual such as choking or suffocation due to its small or broken parts and may result to endocrine disruption and reproductive or development.
The agency prohibits all concerned establishments from distributing the said toy until it will be granted an authorized CPN.
The FDA also requested local government units (LGUs) to ensure that glowing lato-lato are not sold in markets or areas of their jurisdiction.
